Of The Month Categories
OTMs can be submitted for individuals, communities, or programs. Please read the descriptions below before you submit your nomination to determine which category best suites the individual, community, or program you'd like to recognize. Nominations submitted to the incorrect category may be moved by our Recognition Chair prior to voting.
General
Programs
- Advisor: Any individual who directly advises a residence life organization and has made outstanding contributions to the organization(s). The individual may be the main advisor or the graduate advisor. Examples include, but are not limited to: IRHC Advisor, NRHH Advisor, Hall Council Advisor, etc.
- Institution Faculty/Staff: This category includes faculty and staff members in our out of residence life who aid students in their academics and/or personal affairs. This category is intended to recognize institutional faculty or staff who have made a contribution to the residence life community both in and out of the classroom.
- Executive Board Member: This category recognizes the outstanding contributions of an Executive Board member of a residence life organization and the work of the board member within the Executive Board and across residence halls on their campus. Examples include: Hall Council, IRHC, NRHH, RA Council, etc.
- Residence Life Professional Staff: This category includes individuals who aid residents within the housing campus community. This category is intended to recognize the Residence Life Staff who have made outstanding contributions to the residence life community. Examples include Building Leadership Team (BLT) members, Incident Response Team (IRT) Members, RLHS Central Staff, etc.
- Graduate Assistant: This category includes graduate students who aid residents within the housing campus community, namely Residential Life Assistants (RLAs).
- Resident Assistant: This category includes any Resident Assistant who has worked with/impacted residents on their floor, in their hall, or in their area, and gone above and beyond during the time of nomination. Note: RAs will be recognized on the campus level by their area (i.e. FYRE RA OTM, UY RA OTM, etc.), but all RA nominations should be submitted under this category.
- Student Staff Member: This category includes any Student Staff member working in a residence hall (but not working in the capacity of a Resident Assistant or Executive Board Member) who have made an impact in their residential community. Examples include Lead Office Assistants (LOAs) and Office Assistants (OAs).
- First Year Student: This category includes any individual enrolled as a first year student at the institution who has made an impact on their residential community. Nominees could include, but are not limited to students who have made a contribution to their floor, hall, residence life organization, etc. through leadership, motivation, programming, volunteering and/or being a role model for other residents.
- Student: This category includes any individual enrolled as a student at the institution who has made an impact on their residential community. Nominees could include, but are not limited to students who have made a contribution to their floor, hall, residence life organization, etc. through leadership, motivation, programming, volunteering and/or being a role model for other residents.
- Spotlight: Anything that does not fall under any of the other categories that you feel is worthy of an Of the Year recognition. Examples include facilities staff, PSOs, dining staff, etc. Individuals or groups that would be eligible for nomination in any other category are ineligible for nomination in the Spotlight category.
- Organization: This category include any residential life organization that has made outstanding contributions to the residential life community at NYU. This can include: Hall Councils, IRHC, NRHH, RA Council, etc.
- Residential Community: Any residential community that has done outstanding work and/or has had a positive impact on individuals in the residential life community. This can include wings, halls, floors, complexes, buildings, etc. Note: Residential Communities will be recognized on the campus level by their area (i.e. FYRE Community OTM, UY Community OTM, etc.), but all Residential Community nominations should be submitted under this category.
Programs
- Empowerment Program: A program that promotes and educates about empowerment, diversity and understanding. This program illustrates the importance of promoting diversity in the residence halls as well as embracing diversity in the everyday lives of the residents.
- Educational Program: A program meant to educate residents about a topic, issue or idea. Programs nominated in this category can include, but are not limited to programming focused on academic success, learning a new skill, promoting global citizenship, etc.
- Passive Program: Any program that does not require anyone to actively run it for people to participate in it. This category is intended to recognize residential programming that occurs through bulletin boards, newsletters, pamphlets, etc.
- Social Program: Any social program that focuses on resident interaction and their ability to meet new people and socialize. Programs in this category can range from being a floor social program to a campus wide program.
- Service Program: A service or philanthropic program that benefits a group, charity, or other organization. The program should focus on the importance of the residents giving back to the communities in which they live. Examples include, but are not limited to: drives, fundraisers, day of service, etc.
- Recognition Program: A program meant to encourage recognition of individuals within a given residential community, building, or team. This program should focus on recognizing the hard work and effort of others.
